The Roles of the 5′ and 3′ Untranslated Regions in Human Astrovirus Replication

Human astrovirus 1 is among the main viral causes of diarrhea in infants. Using reverse genetic tools we investigated in the involvement of untranslated genomic regions of human astrovirus 1 in viral protein translation, RNA replication and infectious particles production. The results add to the knowledge on the molecular biology of astroviruses and will contribute to antiviral treatment strategies.
